Stunning Sterling Silver Flying Trophies at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C.

In November of 2022, we visited the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. We were not expecting to see any silver items during our visit there, but to our delight, we got to see several beautiful sterling silver trophies awarded to flyers and airplanes that flew in air show competitions in the early 20th century. At the dawn of the flying age, the public at large was absolutely entranced with the prospects of air flight and many large scale spectator shows were organized to encourage competition amongst inventors, investors and pilots. Awards were given for longest flight times and most passengers carried and a plethora of other criteria.
