The Silver Queen Museum in Largo, Florida is a delightful little museum that features a nice selection of rare and antique sterling silver hollowware and flatware. It also displays some amazing vintage gold jewelry, coins, military items and high end decorative accessories.
Some highlights of the silver collection are a Tiffany Punch Bowl/ Trophy with an equestrian horses theme. There is also another awesome trophy bowl made by Gorham with a dragon and snake theme. There are also many pieces of Gorham Martele and some pieces made by famous English silversmith Paul Storr. Faberge silver enameled boxes are also on dislay.
If you love gold, there are some incredible gold nuggets and gold figurines that show the signs of the zodiac. There are also quite of few rare gold numismatic coins on display.
The rest of the collection is an eclectic mix of dinnerware pieces, collectibles and fine vertu. Make sure to see the 1000 troy ounce silver Atocha bar from the 17th Century. There are also some very interesting pieces of old ivory hand carved from China.
The cost of entry to the museum is free, but you will need to ask a sales associate in The Main Silver Queen Store front to escort you upstairs for a private viewing of the collection. The Silver Queen Museum is only around 400 square feet in size, but as the saying goes, good things come in small packages.
The rest of The Silver Queen store front is around 14,500 square feet with around 5,000 square feet of showroom space easily accessible to the public. Although, the rest of the store's inventory is not marketed as a "museum," there are certainly an abundance of museum quality pieces of jewelry, coins and silver available for purchase.
If you want see a really nice museum of high quality silver, gold and antique items, The Silver Queen Museum is the place to visit when visiting Largo, Florida. Admission if free, but make sure you have a fat wallet because the rest of the store front has many tempting high items that you may not be able to resist in making a purchase.
