We visited Boldt Castle within the Thousand Islands in Alexandria, New York - USA nestled atop Heart Island in The St. Lawrence River. To be blunt, there was little to be seen of silver except for one case. I was told that the silver was English in origin and donated to the castle and was not part of the original owner's collection from The Boldt family who once owned the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. I had hoped to have seen some incredible silver suite and services that once adorned the dining halls of the family's famous hotels, but alas that was not meant to be.
I was on the fence to even feature their small silver collection on our "Silver Museum" site since it was so insubstantial. However....... The castle itself is so magnificent, beautiful and story book in nature, that I decided to let that part of the equation win out and still post this article.
The Boldt Castle is truly an amazing place. It sits prominently on The St. Lawrence River and has sweeping 360 degree views of the Thousand Island region. It is also an architectural masterpiece with how the buildings on its own private island are designed and arranged. It was once in complete disrepair, but is now being slowly but surely rehabilitated to like new.
Boldt Castle is definitely not a destination location to go see and learn about museum quality silver.
However, a visit there still is so very well worth it and very educational.
Enoy visiting Boldt Castle and let us know if you liked it in the comments section below.
