Amazing Russian Silver and Objects of Virtu at Hillwood Museum & Gardens Washington, D.C.

Updated: Nov 6

My husband, son and I visited Hillwood Museum and Gardens in November of 2022 and we absolutely loved it! It has one of the finest collections in the world of Russian Silver, Objects of Virtu and Faberge Eggs.

It was extraordinary to see the collectibles displayed in an estate setting of the original collector and not in an institutional museum.

The home and collection were owned by:

From Wikipedia:

Marjorie Merriweather Post (March 15, 1887 – September 12, 1973) was an American businesswoman, socialite, and philanthropist. She was also the owner of General Foods Corporation.

Post used much of her fortune to collect art, particularly Imperial-era Russian art, much of which is now on display at Hillwood, the museum which was her estate in Washington, D.C. She is also known for her mansion, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.

If you are visiting Washington, D.C., this is a must see stop for any collector of silver or fine objects of virtu, furnishings, fine jewelry and decorative accessories. Reservations required and get there early to get free tickets to guided tours.
